EUROPEAN SHORT FILM ACADEMY
NOMINEES FOR THE EUROPEAN FILM AWARDS 2016 ON TOUR
SHORT MATTERS! is the European Film Academy’s short film tour which brings the short films nominated for the European Film Awards to a series of film festivals and institutions across Europe and beyond. Coming from various regions of Europe the 2015 SHORT MATTERS! Programme featuring the short films nominated for the European Film Awards 2016 is a manifold panorama of contemporary European filmmaking.
The members of the European Film Academy – more than 3,000 European film professionals − selected the film 9 DAYS – FROM MY WINDOW IN ALEPPO by Thomas Vroege, Floor van der Meulen and Issa Touma, a co-production between The Netherlands and Syria, as the overall winner, which was presented at the 29th European Film Awards Ceremony in Wrocław/Poland in December 2016.

Amalimbo is the story of Tipuana, a five year-old girl who experiences the limbo when she tries to pass to ”the other side” in her desperate urge to meet again with her recently deceased father.
It is a short story that happens in an undefined place, and also in an undefined future.

A group of men is waiting at the fringes of a coastal woodland for the journey to Europe. They get trapped in a temporal threshold. A film is shot there with the men playing themselves. The landscape changes and where they are is no longer their motherland. There are no beautiful beaches, the water is not transparent, not clear. Legends from the colonial past collide with the present time, memory survives.
